Dengue may intensify from late Sept: State minister

The dengue outbreak in Bangladesh may reach its peak from the final week of this month through the first week of October, State Minister for Health M A Muhit said.

He made the remarks on Wednesday at a discussion held at the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) in the capital to mark World Suicide Prevention Day.

The state minister said no dengue-related death is desirable under any circumstances. He added that 300 doctors have already received training, while civil surgeons have been instructed to take the necessary measures.

He also said adequate stocks of saline and dengue testing kits have been kept ready in anticipation of a possible rise in the number of patients. If necessary, the stocks will be increased further, he added.

He said additional beds have already been arranged for the treatment of dengue patients. Private hospital owners have also been instructed to keep an adequate number of beds ready.
