Prices of eggs and broiler chicken have increased in the capital’s markets over the past week, while vegetable prices have remained high despite adequate supply. The price of green chillies, however, has fallen somewhat to a more manageable level. Consumers have expressed frustration over the rising prices of essential commodities.

On Friday, a public holiday, markets across the capital saw more shoppers than usual. Despite adequate supplies of essential goods, consumers said there was still little relief from high prices.

A dozen eggs are being sold for more than Tk 150 in the markets. Broiler chicken is priced at Tk 200 per kg, while Sonali chicken is selling for Tk 330 per kg.

Vegetable supplies remain adequate, but prices have not fallen. Each bottle gourd is selling for Tk 80, while ash gourd is priced at Tk 60. Depending on the market, pointed gourd, bitter gourd and spiny gourd are selling for Tk 80–100 per kg. Green papaya, however, is available at Tk 40 per kg, while potatoes are selling for Tk 30 per kg.

Meanwhile, green chilli prices have fallen somewhat and are now at a more manageable level. Depending on quality, green chillies are being sold for Tk 120–160 per kg.
