The swearing-in ceremony of newly elected President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will be held at Bangabhaban at 7:30pm today (Friday). To ensure smooth traffic movement in and around Bangabhaban, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has announced special traffic arrangements.
The arrangements were announced in a public notice signed by Motijheel Traffic Division Deputy Commissioner Md Amir Khosru on Thursday (August 20).
The DMP said the outgoing and newly elected presidents, the prime minister, speaker, chief justice, former presidents, cabinet members, diplomats from various countries, senior government officials and other dignitaries will attend the ceremony. To ensure their smooth movement, the special traffic arrangements will remain in effect from 3pm to 9pm on Friday. Vehicles carrying invited guests will be exempt from the restrictions.
Under the traffic restrictions, all vehicles will be barred from entering the area stretching from the Aliko Gap at Motijheel Shapla Chattar through the Dilkusha commercial area (Bangabhaban Road) to the Rajuk Crossing (DIT Road).
Buses travelling from Shapla Chattar and Dainik Bangla towards Rajuk and Gulistan will instead operate via Dainik Bangla, UBL and Press Club. The DMP has advised the buses concerned to use alternative routes if necessary. No commercial vehicles will be allowed to travel from Dainik Bangla towards Rajuk.
Vehicles coming from the Hanif Flyover have been instructed not to make a U-turn at Zero Point. Instead, they should turn left towards Fulbaria or right via UBL Crossing and proceed towards Dainik Bangla and Shapla Chattar.
As an alternative route, the DMP has advised motorists to use Zero Point–UBL Crossing–Nightingale Crossing–Fakirapul Crossing–Shapla Chattar–Ittefaq Road.
