US Congressional delegation visits Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar

A US Congressional delegation visited Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday, holding discussions with Bangladeshi officials on the humanitarian crisis, conditions in the camps and the prospects for the refugees’ safe return to Myanmar.

The delegation also visited the Office of the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC), where its members met RRRC Commissioner and Additional Secretary Mohammed Mizanur Rahman.

The discussions focused on the ongoing humanitarian response, the situation inside the refugee camps and efforts toward the safe, voluntary and sustainable repatriation of Rohingya refugees to Myanmar.

The RRRC said the visit reflects continued US interest in the Rohingya crisis and highlights the importance of international cooperation in supporting refugees and Bangladesh’s humanitarian efforts.

The seven-member Congressional delegation included Noelle Dana, Senior Legislative Assistant to Representative Ryan MacKenzie; Robert Sar, Legislative Director to Representative Stephanie Bice; Ryan Carreiro, Legislative Assistant to Representative Marlin Stutzman; Torie Cox, National Security Analyst at the Senate Republican Policy Committee; Sarah Jacobs, Legislative Director to Representative Madeleine Dean; Maiesha Hossain, National Security Legislative Aide to Senator Chris Van Hollen; and Marshele Bryant, Legislative Director to Representative Maxwell Frost.

They were accompanied by Nancy Jackson, Senior External Relations Officer, and Jessie Ainslie, External Relations Associate, from UNHCR’s Multi-Country Office in Washington, D.C.
