President Mirza Fakhrul vows to serve state in non-partisan manner

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has pledged to carry out his constitutional duties without political bias, saying the interests of the country and its people will remain his top priority.

“I am now completely a non-partisan person,” he said at his first Durbar with the officers and employees of Bangabhaban at the Durbar Hall on Thursday.

Fakhrul said he had resigned from his political party, parliament and Cabinet before taking charge as president and would now perform his responsibilities independently for the welfare of the state and the nation.

He said he would have neither anger nor favour toward anyone in his role as president, stressing that national and public interests would guide his decisions.

The president also called on Bangabhaban officials and employees to perform their duties with honesty, sincerity, dedication and discipline. 

He said maintaining public trust should be a key responsibility of everyone working at the presidential residence.

Fakhrul stressed the need to protect the confidentiality of matters related to national security handled at Bangabhaban. 

He also urged officials to use state resources carefully and prevent unnecessary expenditure.

“Government resources and other facilities are managed with the money of the country’s people,” he said, calling for their proper, transparent and accountable use.

He also encouraged Bangabhaban employees to maintain discipline in their personal lives, develop moral strength and good character, and maintain a healthy balance between their family and professional responsibilities.

Describing everyone at Bangabhaban as part of one family, Fakhrul said officials should communicate openly and work together to resolve problems.

The president also reflected on his long political career and his participation in various struggles alongside the people.

He paid tribute to those who sacrificed their lives during the 1971 Liberation War and highlighted the contributions of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman during the war and in nation-building afterward.

Fakhrul also recalled former prime minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, praising her courage, sacrifices and contribution throughout her political career.

Highlighting the history and tradition of Bangabhaban, the president expressed hope that its officials and employees would continue working together in the days ahead.
