The late US Senator Edward M. Kennedy's son, Edward Kennedy Jr., who supported Bangladesh during the Liberation War, is scheduled to travel to Bangladesh for a week starting today on October 29.
Kennedy Jr. stated ‘My family and I will honour the 50th anniversary of my father’s pivotal role in the Bangladeshi struggle for independence’.
The US Embassy in Dhaka announced in a statement on Monday that the visit of Edward Kennedy Jr., also known as Ted Kennedy Jr., and his family will be "a milestone" in the yearlong celebration of US-Bangladesh relations' 50th anniversary.
Kennedy will deliver a speech at Dhaka University under the auspices of the US Department of State's Speakers Program to honor his father's legacy as a faithful supporter of Bangladesh's struggle for independence. He will also pay a visit to the banyan tree that his father planted to symbolize the friendship between the United States and Bangladesh.
Ted Kennedy Jr will meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen during the visit.
