Former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) ATM Shamsul Huda has passed away at the age of 83. He died at his residence in Gulshan on Saturday morning, according to his brother-in-law Ashfaq Kaderi.
“He passed away at home around 9 a.m.,” Kaderi told reporters.
Huda`s body is currently at United Hospital in Dhaka. His funeral prayer and burial will take place once his daughter returns from the United States, the family confirmed.
ATM Shamsul Huda is best known for leading the Election Commission that conducted Bangladesh’s 9th parliamentary election, widely considered a significant step in the country’s democratic process.
He served as the Chief Election Commissioner from 2007 to 2012, during a critical transitional period in Bangladesh’s political landscape. His tenure was noted for efforts to restore public confidence in the electoral process.
