The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has said that a fraud syndicate is attempting to collect money by opening a fake WhatsApp account using the name and photo of the NBR Chairman.
In a press release issued on Thursday, the agency stated that a fake WhatsApp account created with the number +8801618-603328 has been used to demand money from various individuals. The matter has already come to the attention of the NBR.
The release also added that the same group had previously used a similar tactic to create fake WhatsApp accounts and attempt to extort money from different people. This has put people from all walks of life at risk of fraud.
In this situation, the NBR has urged its officials and employees, as well as the general public, to remain alert to such fraudulent activities.
It has also advised people not to engage in any financial transactions with suspicious numbers and to promptly inform law enforcement authorities if they encounter such incidents.
