US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen has visited Bangladesh Railway’s Central Locomotive Workshop in Parbatipur, highlighting how American-made locomotives and technology are contributing to the country’s transport infrastructure.
During his visit, Christensen toured the workshop, inspected a Progress Rail locomotive and met Bangladeshi technicians responsible for maintaining the US-made engines, US Embassy Dhaka spokesperson Poornima Rai said Tuesday.
Christensen later travelled by train to Saidpur, where he spoke with passengers before visiting the historic Saidpur Railway Workshop and Museum.
Bangladesh Railway has purchased 40 locomotives manufactured by US-based Progress Rail. The embassy said the purchase demonstrates how US exports and technology can support Bangladesh’s infrastructure and development priorities.
The visit also underscored the practical benefits of stronger trade and commercial ties between Bangladesh and the United States.
