The Election Commission has extended the deadline by sixteen days for foreign observers and media to apply to observe the 12th parliamentary election. The deadline is December 7.
According to EC Additional Secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath, the deadline was extended by the EC from November 21 as many foreign observers demanded.
The EC previously stated that it is committed to holding free, fair, credible, and peaceful elections and that it welcomes global election observers and media in addition to local observers.
According to the Guidelines for International Election Observers and Foreign Media, applicants, whether individuals or organizations, should have practical experience in the sectors of good governance, elections, democracy, peacebuilding, and human rights.
Applicants must also present proof of registration with their respective country`s appropriate entity and follow Bangladesh`s election regulations.
Applications from anyone convicted of election fraud or any other comparable offenses will not be considered for observer accreditation by the commission.
