Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said the country is moving toward a new system where the police force will operate without any political pressure.
He made the remarks on Saturday while speaking at the passing-out parade of the 43rd BCS (Police) batch at Bangladesh Police Academy in Rajshahi. The event marked the end of one-year basic training for trainee Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs).
The minister said the new generation of officers has a greater responsibility during this time of change. He added that the vision of a “new Bangladesh,” built on past sacrifices, requires a professional and people-friendly police force.
During the ceremony, he inspected the parade, took the salute and handed over awards to officers who showed outstanding performance in different areas of training.
He encouraged the newly appointed officers to work for public service, maintain discipline and follow the chain of command. Stressing accountability and integrity, he said all citizens must be treated equally under the law, regardless of their background.
The minister also said steps are being taken to replace the old colonial-era police law with a modern one. He added that the government is maintaining a zero-tolerance stance against corruption and wants officers to ensure safety for citizens while being firm against criminals.
Highlighting modern challenges, he urged the officers to improve their technical skills to deal with digital crimes.
He further mentioned that discussions are ongoing at the policy level about updating the police uniform based on feedback from within the force.
A total of 72 trainee officers joined the batch that began on March 1, 2025. Among them, Ahmed Sadman Sakib served as parade commander.
Md Fahim Faisal was named both Best Probationer and Best in Academics, while Md Arafat Hossain, Shaon Reza and Bapi Kumar Das received awards in field activities, horsemanship and shooting respectively.
The minister expressed hope that the new officers would play a key role in ensuring justice and strengthening the rule of law in the country.
