Dilara Hafiz, the wife of Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, has passed away while undergoing treatment in Singapore. She was 78.
She died at around 1:29pm local time on Saturday at Singapore General Hospital, according to Sayrul Kabir Khan, a member of the media cell of Bangladesh Nationalist Party.
Family members said she had been ill for a long time and was receiving treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka. As her condition did not improve, she was taken to Singapore on the afternoon of Eid-ul-Fitr for advanced care.
Dilara Hafiz is survived by her husband, a son, a daughter, grandchildren and many relatives and well-wishers.
Her body is expected to be brought back to Bangladesh on Saturday evening. The first namaz-e-janaza will be held at 11:00am on March 30 at the South Plaza of Jatiya Sangsad. A second funeral prayer will take place after Johr prayers at the central mosque in Dhaka Cantonment.
She will be buried at Banani Military Graveyard.
Her death has brought sorrow among family members, political circles and well-wishers across the country.
