All six bank staffers found unconscious, toxic smell reported

A sudden outbreak of illness among all staff members at the IFIC Bank sub-branch in Kuliarchar, Kishoreganj, has caused widespread concern and prompted an official investigation.

The incident occurred around 12:45 PM when a customer briefly stepped outside the bank and returned to find all six staff members unconscious, with signs of vomiting on the floor and a strong, bitter chemical odor inside the premises.

Police officials reported detecting a toxic smell within the branch, leading to suspicions of a deliberate release of harmful gas or chemicals.

Though the vault and cash box remained secure, authorities are exploring the possibility that an organized group may have attempted to incapacitate the staff as part of a planned robbery.

The branch, located on the second floor of a commercial building in Kuliarchar town, had no customers among the affected individuals.

All six staff members, including the branch manager and a security guard, were swiftly transported to local medical facilities for treatment, with some requiring oxygen support due to lowered oxygen levels.

Medical personnel treating the victims suggested the symptoms may have been caused by exposure to a sedative or an unknown toxic substance.

The cause remains unconfirmed, as none of the affected individuals were in a condition to provide statements.

Local authorities, including police and administrative officials, are actively monitoring the situation. The bank has suspended operations for the day, and further steps will be taken after reviewing CCTV footage and completing a full investigation.

The incident has raised concerns about safety protocols in banking facilities and the potential use of chemical substances in criminal activity.
