At least 15 people were injured after a gas balloon exploded at a BNP election office in Tongi, Gazipur, on Monday, police said.
The incident took place at the local election office of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in the Tongi area. Officer-in-Charge Md Shahin Alam of Tongi West Police Station said the blast came from a gas-filled balloon, causing burn injuries to those present.
All injured persons were first taken to Tongi Government Hospital. Police said several of them were later shifted to hospitals in Dhaka as their condition was critical.
Law enforcement officials visited the site after the explosion and started an investigation to determine how the incident occurred.
Police said further details would be known after the investigation is completed.
