A private university student has died after a fire originated at a flat in Dhaka's Niketan area.
The deceased is Mashrur Rahman, 23, a graduate from Computer Science and Engineering department of Brac University.
According to the family members, Mashrur was starying at his sister's flat for a couple of days as he came Dhka from Bogura to collect his certificates from the university and to attend a wedding of a friend.
His sister's family went to their village home when the fire originated around 7:00am on Sunday on the fifth floor of the building.
Being informed, two firefighting units rushed to the spot, doused the fire and recovered the youth in an unconscious state.
Later, he was rushed to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery where doctors declared him dead around 9:30am.
Abul Hasan, officer-in-charge of Gulshan Police Station, quoting firefighters said we are suspecting the air-conditioner caught fire due to electric short-circuit.
