BNP Chairperson and former prime minister Khaleda Zia is likely to be laid to rest beside her husband, late President Ziaur Rahman, at Zia Udyan in the capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed shared the information with journalists on Tuesday. He said Khaleda Zia’s namaz-e-janaza is expected to be held on Wednesday (December 31) at Manik Mia Avenue in Dhaka after Zohr prayers.
“Following the janaza, she may be buried next to her husband, martyred President Ziaur Rahman, at Zia Udyan,” Salahuddin said.
Three-time former prime minister and BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia passed away at 6:00am on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital.
She was admitted to the hospital on November 23 and was moved to the intensive care unit on November 27 as her condition deteriorated. She remained on life support until her death.
Born on August 15, 1945, Khaleda Zia was Bangladesh’s first woman prime minister and the second woman prime minister in the Muslim world after Pakistan’s Benazir Bhutto.
BNP leaders said the final details of the funeral and burial arrangements will be determined following consultations with her family and party leadership.
