All e-commerce companies in Bangladesh are mandated register with the Ministry of Commerce by the next two months, said Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam.
He made the announcement following a cabinet meeting on Thursday (October 28).
The issue of e-commerce came up in impromptu discussions outside the agenda of the cabinet meeting. In the meeting, the Prime Minister directed various instructions on e-commerce businesses across the country.
The cabinet secretary said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed e-commerce companies to get registration from the commerce ministry within the next two months. He also said that Bangladesh Bank should be involved in the registration process.
The secretary further said that the Prime Minister has directed to take steps to make public the names of the registered e-commerce companies.
The secretary added that the concerned government department will disseminate information among the public to refrain from all kinds of financial transactions with any unregistered organization.
