Canada labels India as a Cyber enemy: Growing tensions between the two countries

In a surprising move, the Canadian government, led by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, has officially classified India as an adversary.

This means Canada now sees India as a "cyber enemy," joining a list of countries it considers threats in terms of cybersecurity.

This decision has raised alarms in New Delhi, where officials believe Canada is trying to damage India‍‍`s international image and justify negative actions against the country.

During a press conference last Saturday, India’s Ministry of External Affairs pointed out that high-ranking officials in Trudeau‍‍`s government have openly stated their goal of swaying global opinion against India.

The ministry criticized these statements, saying that claims about India being a cybersecurity threat have been made without any solid proof. This has led many to suspect that these accusations are more about politics than real concerns.

The report that triggered this reaction is called “National Cyber Threat Assessment 2025-26.” In it, the Canadian government describes India as a “cyber enemy,” putting it in the same category as countries like China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea.

The report warns that as India tries to increase its power and influence in the world, its cybersecurity programs could pose risks to Canada.

This new classification is particularly significant given the ongoing tensions between Canada and India.

Analysts believe that Canada’s stance may be shaped by its relationships with Western allies and its role in the Indo-Pacific region.

The report suggests that India’s growing ambitions could be seen as a direct threat to Canada’s cybersecurity.

Furthermore, this decision could affect the economic ties between the two nations.

Ongoing discussions about trade and cooperation in technology and defense might be strained as both countries rethink their strategies in light of this new narrative.

In summary, Canada’s labeling of India as a cyber enemy highlights the complicated nature of international relations today.

As countries navigate their interests and alliances, the impact of such classifications could lead to increased tensions, making careful diplomacy essential to avoid further conflict.
