Biman Bangladesh Airlines posts record profit of Tk 9.37 billion

Biman Bangladesh Airlines, the state-owned flag carrier, has reported an unaudited profit of Tk 937 crore (Tk 9.37 billion) for the outgoing 2024–25 fiscal year, marking the highest earnings in its 55-year history.

In a press release issued on Monday, the airline said, “With this achievement, Biman has set an unprecedented milestone since its inception.”

Previously, Biman’s second-highest profit was recorded in 2021–22 at Tk 440 crore.

Expressing gratitude to passengers and customers, Biman attributed the record earnings to their trust and support. The airline also credited efficient resource management, effective strategies, and continuous service improvements as key factors behind the success.

Biman noted that it started its journey in 1972 with revenues of just Tk 1.9 crore in a war-torn Bangladesh with limited infrastructure. Over the decades, it has transformed into a modern and competitive airline.

According to company data, revenue for the 2024–25 fiscal year reached Tk 11,631.37 crore. The year before, Biman had, for the first time, crossed the Tk 10,000-crore revenue mark.

Over its 55-year history, Biman has managed to remain profitable for 26 years in total. Since its transformation from a corporation into a public limited company in 2007, the airline’s cumulative profit over the past 18 years stands at Tk 589 crore.

As of the last fiscal year, Biman’s fleet consisted of 21 aircraft, including 19 owned by the airline. Among these are four Boeing 787-8s and two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, known for being modern and fuel-efficient.

The airline highlighted its in-house maintenance capability as another major strength, saying it can handle everything from line maintenance to major checks domestically, resulting in significant cost savings.

In 2024–25, Biman transported 3.4 million passengers, carried 43,918 tonnes of cargo, and improved its cabin factor to 82 percent—an increase from the previous year. Additionally, January 2025 saw record ticket sales in the airline’s history.

Looking ahead, Biman said its plans include expanding routes to new popular destinations, accelerating digital transformation in operations and passenger services, and strengthening cargo operations.

The company aims to become a leading airline in South Asia by ensuring service quality, reliability, and safety.
