A deadly explosion at a factory in Russia’s Ryazan region on Friday has claimed 11 lives and injured 130 others, the Russian Emergencies Ministry reported on Saturday.
In a statement posted on Telegram, the ministry said rescue teams are continuing to search through the rubble at the blast site, located about 320 kilometers (198 miles) southeast of Moscow.
Ryazan Governor Pavel Malkov said the incident was caused by a fire that broke out inside a workshop at the factory.
The cause of the fire remains unclear, and the factory’s exact production activities have not been disclosed.
Some Russian media reports suggest the explosion may have been triggered by gunpowder igniting.
Ukrainian drones have previously targeted military and economic infrastructure in the Ryazan region, although no connection to the current incident has been confirmed.
