Atikur Rahman Ruman on Monday said attacking individuals and damaging people’s reputation in the name of freedom of expression cannot be considered free speech and should be treated as an offence.

He made the remarks at a press conference held at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon marking the government’s first 100 days.
The programme was organised by the Prime Minister’s Press Wing.

Ruman said respect should be maintained while speaking about national leaders and public figures.
Referring to an incident at the Secretariat earlier in the day, he said a young woman addressed Prime Minister Tarique Rahman without proper respect.
According to him, such behaviour reflects social decline and may negatively influence younger generations.

He stressed the importance of teaching children how to speak respectfully with others.
Ruman also said the prime minister is working hard for the country’s welfare and trying to bring positive change for the people.

The press conference was moderated by Deputy Press Secretary Jahidul Islam Rony and attended by several officials from the Prime Minister’s Press Wing.
