At least 15 people were killed and six others injured after a truck carrying iron rods overturned near the eastern side of the Jamuna Bridge in Tangail early Monday.
The accident took place in the Saratail area of Kalihati upazila around 4:30am, police said.
According to law enforcers, the truck was travelling from Chattogram towards the northern region when it overturned on the highway.
Police believe many of the victims boarded the truck at different places while travelling home ahead of Eid.
The injured were rescued and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Fauzia Habib Khan, additional superintendent of police of Gopalpur Circle, said 15 people died at the scene.
Authorities were trying to identify the victims, as their identities were not immediately known.
