All preparations have been completed at Bangabhaban regarding the possible resignation of President Mohammed Shahabuddin. The National Parliament Secretariat has also made the necessary arrangements. The remaining formalities will be completed once the resignation letter is submitted to the Speaker of Parliament.

Sources confirmed these developments on Friday. According to officials familiar with the matter, the President may resign from office by this afternoon.

Sources at Bangabhaban said that all necessary preparations for the President’s resignation have been completed. The resignation letter will be submitted to the Speaker once he provides a time. Meanwhile, the legal wing of the National Parliament Secretariat said it has also made preparations in case the President’s resignation letter reaches the Speaker by this afternoon.

Rumors about President Mohammed Shahabuddin’s resignation recently spread on social media. Several leading newspapers in the country also published reports suggesting that the President was preparing to resign. Amid this situation, responsible authorities have confirmed the possibility of his resignation.

Amid the resignation speculation, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed shortened his visit to Thailand and returned to the country today. Responding to questions from journalists at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, he said he was not aware of any information regarding the President’s resignation.

Speaking about the matter, the Speaker said that if the President resigns, the resignation letter would be submitted to the Speaker. After that, Parliament would elect a new President within 90 days.

In response to another question, he said that if the President resigns, the Speaker would temporarily assume the responsibilities of acting President. Under the Constitution, the President must be elected by Parliament.
