The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has increased gold prices in the domestic market, reversing two consecutive price cuts and pushing the price of 22-carat gold above Tk 2.21 lakh per bhori.
According to a notice issued on Tuesday, the price of 22-carat gold has been fixed at Tk 2,21,441 per bhori, including VAT. The revised rates took effect from 10:00 am.
BAJUS said the latest adjustment was made following an increase in the price of pure gold in the local market.
Under the new price list, 21-carat gold will be sold at Tk 2,11,468 per bhori, while 18-carat gold will cost Tk 1,81,608 per bhori.
The price of traditional gold has been set at Tk 1,48,366 per bhori, with VAT included in all categories.
The association said the revised prices will remain effective until further notice.
However, customers will still have to pay separate making charges depending on the design of jewellery. BAJUS also clarified that jewellers cannot charge VAT separately, as it is already included in the listed prices.
The association added that its existing policy on exchanging and repurchasing gold ornaments will remain unchanged, excluding VAT, making charges and the value of any embedded stones.
BAJUS last revised gold prices on July 14, when it reduced the price of 22-carat gold by Tk 2,158 per bhori to Tk 2,19,808.
So far this year, BAJUS has revised gold prices 92 times. Prices have increased on 44 occasions, decreased on 47 occasions and been adjusted once because of changes in VAT.
Meanwhile, silver prices remain unchanged. The current rates stand at Tk 4,607 per bhori for 22-carat silver, Tk 4,374 for 21-carat, Tk 3,791 for 18-carat and Tk 2,858 for traditional silver.
