France captain Kylian Mbappe claimed the Golden Boot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after finishing as the tournament`s leading scorer with 10 goals.
Mbappe secured the award after Argentina captain Lionel Messi failed to add to his tally in Sunday`s World Cup final in New Jersey. Messi finished the tournament with eight goals.
England midfielder Jude Bellingham and Norway striker Erling Haaland shared third place in the scoring charts with seven goals each.
The Real Madrid forward also won the Golden Boot at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where France finished runners-up.
Mbappe boosted his tally by scoring twice in Saturday`s third-place play-off, helping France defeat England 6-4.
The 27-year-old also became the highest scorer in World Cup history, taking his overall tally to 22 goals across three tournaments—one more than Messi.
Despite the individual milestone, Mbappe admitted he would have preferred another opportunity to compete for the title.
"I would have preferred not to be the all-time top scorer and to be playing tomorrow`s match," he said.
Mbappe made his World Cup debut in 2018 and has earned more than 100 international caps for France.
