Md Asaduzzaman has directed the commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police to submit the investigation report within one week over the rape and murder of eight-year-old Ramisa Akter in Pallabi.
According to a statement from the ministry on Thursday, the minister also instructed authorities to ensure a fast investigation and complete the trial process as quickly as possible.
Ramisa, a second-grade student, was allegedly raped and killed by a tenant living next to her family’s apartment in Pallabi on Tuesday.
Police said the accused, Sohel Rana, reportedly took the child into his room when she left her flat in the morning.
Later, her body was recovered from the suspect’s room in a brutal condition.
Local residents detained the suspect’s wife, while Sohel escaped from the building by cutting through a window grille, police said.
Law enforcement officers later arrested him in Fatullah area of Narayanganj the same day.
On Wednesday, the accused reportedly gave a confessional statement before a Dhaka court.
