Lionel Messi sparked injury concerns ahead of the World Cup after leaving Inter Miami CF’s match against Philadelphia Union on Sunday night.
Messi was substituted in the 73rd minute during Inter Miami’s dramatic 6-4 victory after appearing to feel discomfort in his left hamstring.
The Argentine star walked slowly off the field and headed directly to the dressing room without speaking to team medical staff on the bench.
No official update on his condition was immediately released.
Before leaving the match, Messi provided two assists as Inter Miami secured the high-scoring win.
Luis Suárez scored the winning goal late in the match, while Rodrigo De Paul added another in stoppage time.
The game also set an MLS record with eight goals scored in the first half.
Messi’s fitness has become a major concern for Argentina ahead of the upcoming World Cup, which begins next month.
The 38-year-old captain has previously said he would only play in the tournament if fully fit.
Argentina will begin its group-stage campaign on June 16.
