Bodies of four brothers return from Oman

The bodies of four Bangladeshi brothers who were found dead inside a car in Oman arrived at their home in Rangunia on Wednesday morning, bringing grief to the entire area.

The bodies were taken to Lalannagar Union from Dhaka airport by ambulance after arriving in Bangladesh on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight on Tuesday night.

Relatives, neighbours and local residents gathered at the family home as the coffins arrived. Family members received the bodies at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the presence of MP Hummam Qader Chowdhury, who expressed sympathy to the family.

Local Union Parishad member Amir Hossain Sumon said funeral prayers for the four brothers would be held at 11am before they are buried at the family graveyard. Preparations for the burial had already been completed, he added.

According to local expatriates, Oman police suspect the brothers died after inhaling carbon monoxide gas from the vehicle’s exhaust while the engine was running.

The deceased were identified as Rashedul Islam, Shahedul Islam, Sirajul Islam and Shahidul Islam, sons of the late Jamal Uddin. Among them, Rashedul and Shahedul were married, while Sirajul and Shahidul were unmarried.

Family members said Rashedul and Shahedul had planned to return to Bangladesh together on May 15.

The brothers were from Bandarajar Para in Lalannagar Union under Rangunia Upazila. Four of the five brothers in the family had been living in Oman for work, while another brother, Enam, stays in Bangladesh with their ill mother.

The bodies were recovered from a parked vehicle in Oman’s Muladdah area on May 12.

Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Zahir Uddin of Rangunia Police Station confirmed that the bodies reached the village home on Wednesday morning.
