Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed has reportedly been arrested in Dubai.

According to reports, Dubai Police arrested him with the assistance of Interpol in connection with a corruption case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

A senior official at Police Headquarters confirmed the information on Sunday.

Benazir Ahmed is currently in the custody of Dubai Police. The ACC is expected to begin the necessary legal procedures to bring him back to the country.

Sources at the ACC said a case was filed against Benazir Ahmed on December 15, 2024, over allegations of illegal wealth accumulation, concealment of assets, and money laundering. On March 8, 2026, a Dhaka court issued an arrest warrant against him and directed that the warrant be enforced through Interpol, as he was believed to be abroad. Following this, Dubai Police arrested him with Interpol’s assistance.

He left Dhaka on May 4, 2024, with his wife and daughters on a Singapore Airlines flight.

Benazir Ahmed became Inspector General of Police in April 2020. In December 2021, he was banned from entering the United States over allegations of human rights violations.
