4 more children die with measles-like symptoms in 24 hours

Four more children have died with symptoms of measles in the past 24 hours, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The information was released today (Sunday) in the DGHS‍‍`s regular measles situation report.

According to the report, the deaths occurred between 8:00 a.m. on Saturday (June 13) and 8:00 a.m. on Sunday (June 14). Since March 15, a total of 560 children have died with measles-like symptoms, while 92 deaths have been confirmed as caused by measles. The combined death toll now stands at 652.

The DGHS report also states that 1,052 new suspected measles cases were recorded across the country during the last 24 hours. Since March 15, the number of people reported with measles symptoms has reached 85,951.

According to health authorities, 75 new laboratory-confirmed measles cases were identified during the same period, bringing the total number of confirmed infections to 10,323 since March 15.

In addition, 70,579 patients with measles symptoms have been hospitalized since March 15. Of them, 66,841 have recovered and been discharged from hospital.

The report noted that no deaths from confirmed measles were recorded in the past 24 hours. However, four children died with measles-like symptoms. The deaths were reported from four divisions—Dhaka, Sylhet, Mymensingh, and Khulna—with one child reported dead in each division.
