Donald Trump on Sunday said negotiations with Iran were moving forward but warned that a final agreement to end the regional conflict had not yet been completed.
Trump said he had instructed US negotiators not to rush into a deal, adding that Washington would keep its blockade measures in place until an agreement was officially signed.
The comments came despite recent signs of progress in talks aimed at easing tensions following months of conflict between Iran, the United States and Israel.
According to Iranian media reports, several important issues still remain unresolved, including the release of frozen Iranian assets.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also said negotiations were making progress but cautioned that a nuclear agreement could not be reached quickly.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said any final agreement must fully remove what he described as the Iranian nuclear threat.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Tehran remained ready to assure the world that it was not seeking nuclear weapons.
Reports said the proposed agreement could include temporary easing of sanctions on Iran’s oil and gas exports during the negotiation period.
Leaders from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Jordan and Pakistan also joined recent discussions with Trump over the ongoing peace efforts.
Meanwhile, tensions continued in Lebanon as Israeli forces carried out more strikes against targets linked to Hezbollah despite an earlier ceasefire.
