Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has blamed administrative inertia for the growing prevalence of mob culture in the country.
He alleged that black money and clandestine operations are fueling chaos in society under the guise of spontaneous public action.
Speaking at a press conference at the BNP’s central office in Nayapaltan on Tuesday, Rizvi said, “Various forms of social crimes are now surfacing in new dimensions. Mob culture is intensifying due to the inactivity and stagnation within the administration.”
He further claimed that powerful interest groups are using technology to carry out planned misinformation campaigns against the BNP on social media.
According to him, this disinformation, along with artificial social unrest, appears to be part of a long-term strategy to derail the path of democracy and delay future elections.
Addressing reports of certain BNP leaders and activists allegedly involved in extortion and land grabbing, Rizvi maintained that the party does not tolerate such behavior.
“BNP is a large political platform that includes people of all backgrounds. However, any individual associated with criminal activities like extortion or land grabbing is not acceptable to the party,” he said.
He asserted that the party has taken organizational action against several individuals involved in misconduct, including suspensions, expulsions, and show-cause notices. “Whenever we have learned of such incidents, we have not hesitated to act,” he added.
Rizvi also accused the current interim government of failing to respond adequately to BNP’s calls for legal action against these offenders. “We have contacted the authorities urging them to take legal steps against the real culprits, but the administration remains inactive,” he said.
He further alleged that certain elements within the administration may be acting with ulterior motives, suggesting that some officials might be intentionally interfering rather than ensuring justice.
