Disguised criminals robbed almost Tk 1 lakh from the beneficiaries of an iDnternational NGO at Ukhiya Refugee camp on Wednesday, according to police.
The incident happened at Camp 15, said Mizanur Rahman, assistant superintendent of police (ASP) of Armed Police Battalion 8.
According to the ASP, who supervises the law and order situation at Camp 15, no case has yet been filed with regard to this incident.
He said that the funds would be distributed to beneficiaries at the camp-in-charge`s (CIC) office.
However, without informing the CIC or local police, they began distributing funds from the shack of a sub-majhi (community leader) at 1:30pm, when the disguised thieves robbed Tk 1 lakh from the relief workers.
"We asked the NGO several times to file a complaint in this regard, but they didn`t," stated the police official.
Md Shamsud Douza, additional commissioner for refugee relief and repatriation, also demanded a report on the incident from the NGO.
However, the NGO has not submitted the report yet, he added.
