The e-mail server of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, which went under the control of hackers through ransomware, could not be recovered even after five days.
Hackers have timed their demands for ransom. The Minister of State for Civil Aviation said that a committee has been formed to investigate the incident.
Biman officials said that last Friday, Biman's mail server was infected with ransomware. Ransomware is a special type of malware that can take control of a computer or server. Hackers demanded a ransom to access the server or open the file.
Since last Friday, Biman's internal and external mail communications have been stopped due to a server hack. Besides that, there is a chance that email contact details will be mishandled. Email is used by officials to discuss in-flight purchases, schedules, billing, etc.
State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Mahbub Ali said, "A committee has been formed to investigate the incident." in an event on Wednesday morning.
Aviation officials said that the hackers set a deadline of ten days and demanded a large amount of money. They have threatened to leak all the information if it is not given. The airline could face huge financial losses.
