BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has stated that individuals expressing doubts about the upcoming elections are not forces supporting democracy.
Speaking at a milad and doa event organized by Jubo Dal in Dhaka’s Motijheel area on Saturday, Salahuddin Ahmed said, “They are not on the side of the people of Bangladesh. Perhaps for some reason, they are speaking in a way that could delay, disrupt, or even prevent the elections. But the people of Bangladesh remain united.”
The event was held to pray for the health and well-being of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on the occasion of her 81st birthday.
Salahuddin Ahmed emphasized that the people of Bangladesh are committed to democracy and exercising their voting rights, and anyone opposing this will face the resolve of the nation.
He also called on political parties to remain united in ensuring free, fair, and peaceful elections, similar to their unity in movements against fascism. “We should stay united, engage in dialogue, and facilitate democratic progress,” he added.
Highlighting Khaleda Zia’s enduring struggle for democracy, Salahuddin Ahmed said, “In a country where Khaleda Zia is alive, the nation will never lose its way. She continues to guide the people even after enduring many hardships in her life.”
He further stressed the importance of national unity to safeguard democracy, stating, “The anti-fascist national unity has been established. It must now be strengthened into a formidable force.”
The event was moderated by Jubo Dal General Secretary Nurul Islam and attended by former Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP Convener Saiful Alam Nirab, Jubo Dal Joint General Secretary Rezaul Kabir, Metropolitan North Member Secretary Sajjadul Miraj, Metropolitan South Member Secretary Robiul Islam Nayon, and other party leaders.
