Education Advisor Wahiduddin Mahmud has admitted that he is unsure when all students will receive their textbooks for the current academic year.
After attending a meeting of the Government Procurement Advisory Council at the Secretariat on Tuesday, he spoke to reporters and addressed this pressing issue.
Mahmud mentioned that in previous years, it wasn’t possible to deliver all the books before March.
"This year, we started printing the books a bit late," he explained.
"We had to revise and update the syllabus and curriculum, which took extra time. The number of books has also increased, and none of them are being printed abroad. This is the first time we are fully relying on our local capabilities, and naturally, that’s causing some delays."
He further shared, "Even after gathering all the art paper from various warehouses, there’s still a shortage in the country. Ships carrying more art paper from overseas are already on their way."
When asked exactly when all students will have their books in hand, the education advisor said,
"I can`t give a specific timeline for when every student will get all of their textbooks."
