The government of Bangladesh has announced that monthly allowances for the `July Fighters`—those injured in the July 24 mass uprising—will begin from next month.
Faruk-e-Azam, Adviser on Liberation War Affairs, confirmed the decision on Monday.
In addition to the monthly allowance, the injured fighters will receive free lifetime medical treatment at government hospitals. The government has categorized the injured into three groups:
Category A: Severely injured fighters who are fully dependent on others will receive BDT 20,000 per month and a one-time payment of BDT 500,000.
Category B: Moderately injured fighters will receive BDT 15,000 per month and a one-time payment of BDT 300,000.
Category C: Fighters who have recovered will receive BDT 10,000 per month and a one-time payment of BDT 100,000.
The adviser also stated that 834 individuals have been officially recognized as ‘July Martyrs.’ Each martyr`s family will receive a total of BDT 3 million in compensation, along with a monthly allowance of BDT 20,000.
Family members will be given priority in government and semi-government employment.
A dedicated department has been established to oversee the rehabilitation and welfare of the July Fighters, working under the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs.
Additionally, the government has decided to observe August 5 each year as ‘July Uprising Day’ to honor the movement and its martyrs.
