Neela Israfil files formal complaints against Sarwar Tushar

Neela Israfil, a member of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) and representative of Dhanmondi Thana (Ward 51) under the National Citizens’ Committee, has formally filed a complaint against Sarwar Tushar, the party’s (suspended) Joint Convener, accusing him of unethical behavior, sexual harassment, and gross misconduct.

On Thursday morning, Neela published the allegations through a public post on her Facebook profile and submitted the official complaint to NCP’s internal investigation committee.

Copies of the letter were also sent to the party’s Convener Nahid Islam and Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain.

In her detailed letter, Neela described a series of incidents that unfolded over several months. She claimed that Tushar repeatedly crossed professional boundaries by making inappropriate late-night calls and sexually suggestive remarks such as, “I don’t enjoy talking about politics, but I love hearing slogans from your voice,” and “Send me a beautiful picture of you.”

She also alleged that Tushar pressured her to engage in video calls and referred to her falsely as his “girlfriend” to a DB officer — an act she described as “deeply irresponsible” and damaging to her dignity and reputation.

Additionally, Neela revealed that she recorded several of their phone conversations between February and June 2025 to document the harassment. One such recording was widely circulated on social media on June 16. Following this, she claims Tushar tried to coerce her into publicly denying the accusations.

Neela expressed deep disappointment over the party’s inaction, stating that despite informing senior leadership—including Convener Nahid Islam and others—she received no formal support, acknowledgment, or protection from the organization. “The silence and passivity from the party go against the very progressive ideals we claim to uphold,” she wrote.

She further stated that after sharing her allegations, she faced character assassination and mob harassment both online and in internal circles, including coordinated misinformation campaigns and digital abuse. She condemned this “digital lynching” and demanded accountability from the party leadership.

In her letter, Neela Israfil called for, the formation of a neutral, women-friendly, and independent investigation committee to look into the allegations against Sarwar Tushar.

The immediate establishment of an internal complaint redressal mechanism for female members within the party.

A clear and courageous stance from NCP that ensures justice and sends a strong message that women‍‍`s voices will not be ignored within the party structure.

Neela ended her letter with a firm belief in justice and institutional reform:

“Women in politics must not only be seen as victims but as respected, safe, and equal partners in our collective struggle for justice.”

As of now, NCP has not released any official statement regarding the matter.
