A director of the Department of Environment (DoE) and his wife died after becoming ill at their Mirpur home on Wednesday.
Police identified the deceased as Syed Nazmul Ahsan, 58, DoE director of the Dhaka region, and his wife Nahid Binte Alam, 47.
Both became unwell at their home in Mirpur-2 yesterday. Nazmul was admitted to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where he died in the evening, according to Md Kamruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Mirpur Police Station.
His wife, Nahid, was admitted to the intensive care unit at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), where she died this morning, he claimed.
According to the OC, police transported both remains to the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Nazmul joined the DoE as a research officer in 1996, and was promoted to director in 2017.
The couple leaves behind two daughters. One of them is currently sitting the SSC exam, according to Nazmul`s coworker.
