Former Chief Justice Mohammad Fazlul Karim has passed away at the age of 81. He died early Saturday morning at a hospital in Dhaka while receiving treatment.
The time of his death was around 4:43 am.
His namaz-e-janaza (funeral prayer) will be held at the Inner Garden of the Supreme Court after Zuhr prayers today.
In honor of his passing, all judicial work at the Supreme Court will be suspended on Sunday, according to a notice from the Supreme Court`s registrar general, Dr. Aziz Ahmed Bhuiya.
Fazlul Karim had a long and respected career. In 1982-83, he was elected Secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association. Later, in 1992, he became a member of the Bangladesh Bar Council. After retiring from his role as Chief Justice, he continued to serve as a chairman and arbitrator in many civil and commercial cases.
His passing marks the end of a distinguished career in law and justice in Bangladesh.
