Home Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has defended the arrest of actor Nusrat Faria, stating that allowing her to leave the country despite a pending case would have raised serious questions.
Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat after a law and order meeting on Monday, the adviser said, “If a case is pending against her, what would you have us do? If we had let her go, you would have asked, ‘Why did you allow her to leave?’”
His remarks come a day after Faria was arrested from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport while en route to Thailand. She is accused in a case related to an attempted murder during last July’s uprising.
The comment also follows previous assurances from both the home adviser and Inspector General of Police Baharul Alam that no innocent person would be arrested solely based on their names appearing in politically motivated or broadly framed cases.
