Rumors of Farida Parveen’s death spread on social media

Renowned Lalon singer Farida Parveen is currently undergoing treatment in an intensive care unit, but contrary to rumors spreading on social media, she is still alive.

The misinformation about her death began circulating on Facebook on Tuesday morning, prompting her family to respond and urge people not to spread or believe such false news.

Her son, Imam Zafar Nomani, dismissed the death rumors in a Facebook post, saying he had just spoken with his mother inside the ICU.

“Her condition is slightly better than before, though still very fragile,” he wrote. “The doctors said she remains extremely weak. Please, we request everyone not to spread or believe in any kind of rumors.”

Farida Parveen, who has long suffered from kidney complications and diabetes, was admitted to the ICU recently following medical complications during a dialysis session.

Her husband, Ekushey Padak-winning flutist Gazi Abdul Hakim, confirmed that although her condition has slightly improved compared to the previous day, she remains in a critical state.

“She was worse yesterday. Today she’s a bit better, but the crisis is not over,” he said. “She hasn’t been speaking properly for days. Yesterday she experienced something like a brain stroke. Our family is staying with her at all times.”

He emphasized that there is no shortage in her medical care and that both her children and he, as a national award-winning artist himself, are financially capable.

“We’re not asking anyone for money. We only asked the government to help with arrangements to send her abroad for advanced treatment,” he said.

Hakim also urged the government to immediately form a national-level medical board comprised of top doctors from various hospitals to review her treatment options.

“We are running out of time,” he said. “We just want to know that everything possible has been tried. Farida Parveen is not just someone’s mother or wife—she is an artist for the world.”
