Police have recovered the bodies of three people, including a woman, from separate locations in Dhaka’s Shahbagh.

The three were found unconscious at different times and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Thursday, where doctors declared them dead, according to Md Khaled Monsur, chief of Shahbagh Police Station, reports bdnews24.com.

Among the three, police have so far confirmed the identity of one man.

“We believe all three were homeless individuals who may have died from illness. There were no injury marks on their bodies,” said Khaled.

He added that the exact causes of death would be determined following post-mortem examinations.

Police said that around 9:30pm, locals spotted an unconscious woman lying on the traffic island in front of Dhaka University’s Central Mosque and informed the authorities.

She was taken to DMCH, where doctors declared her dead. Police said she was about 55 years old.

About 15 minutes later, around 9:45pm, another man, believed to be around 40, was found unconscious on the footpath near the National Eidgah ground.

He was also taken to DMCH and declared dead.

Fingerprint identification later confirmed his name as Ashraf Mondol, a resident of Dupchachia in Bogura.

The third body of another man aged around 40 was discovered around 11:45pm on the footpath beside the Central Shaheed Minar.

He too was declared dead after being taken to hospital.

“We have notified the authorities in the area where the identified man lived,” Khaled said.

“The two other victims remain unidentified. If relatives come forward, the bodies will be handed over to them. Otherwise, they will be buried following post-mortems.”
