The extended section of the existing metro rail line to Kamalapur will begin commercial operations in April next year, officials said today.

"Commercial operations on the extended line will commence in April next year, but test runs on the new tracks will begin in January," said retired Brig Gen Md Abdul Wohab, director of the Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development Project.

He said the test runs would be conducted along the entire route from Uttara North Station to Kamalapur during nighttime after regular passenger services end.

By June this year, about 77 percent of the extension work, including the construction of a 1.16-km viaduct, one station, and rail tracks, had been completed.

As of June 2026, construction of all piles, pile caps, piers, station columns, precast segments, the concourse roof, platform slabs, track slabs, parapet walls and the steel roof structure at Kamalapur station had been completed.

Electrical systems, including automated doors, signalling equipment and other installations, will be brought to the station soon.

Work on station entrances and exits, interior wall tiling, fixed glass window installation, and indoor and outdoor painting is ongoing.

A total of 100 of the required 298 precast segments have been completed at the Uttara Construction Yard.

The total length of Line 6 from Uttara North to Kamalapur is 21.26 kilometres. Commercial operations between Uttara and Motijheel began in November 2023.
