Police have arrested four suspects, including one adult and three minors, within 12 hours of the fatal stabbing of a man during a Tazia procession in Dhaka‍‍`s Sutrapur area, according to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

The arrests were made during overnight raids conducted in different parts of the capital between early Saturday morning, police said.

According to investigators, the incident occurred on Friday afternoon as a Tazia procession travelled from Bibika Rowza Imambara in Sutrapur towards Dhanmondi via Chawkbazar and Lalbagh.

Police said a group of youths allegedly attacked and stabbed a man near the Ispahani Building on PK Roy Road in Banglabazar at around 4:45 pm.

The victim, later identified as 31-year-old Md Zakir Hossain, a cleaning worker of Dhaka South City Corporation‍‍`s Ward No. 26, was taken to Mitford Hospital with the help of local residents, where doctors declared him dead.

Following the incident, Zakir‍‍`s elder brother filed a murder case with Sutrapur Police Station against 14 to 15 unidentified individuals.

Police said officers reviewed CCTV footage from the area and gathered information from multiple sources to identify those allegedly involved in the attack.

Based on the investigation, several police teams carried out coordinated raids and arrested four suspects believed to have been directly linked to the killing.

During the operations, police recovered a switchblade knife, a machete and clothing that investigators believe was worn by the suspects during the incident.

According to preliminary interrogation, the dispute allegedly began over who would hold the rope attached to the ceremonial Tazia structure during the procession. Police said the argument escalated into a physical altercation before the victim was chased to the area beneath the Ispahani Building, where he was fatally stabbed.

Investigators said additional suspects have already been identified and efforts are continuing to arrest them.

Legal proceedings against the four arrested suspects are underway, police added.
