Despite pre-election controversies and candidate withdrawals, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) conducted its board of directors election on Monday.
Ahead of the vote, two candidates—Dhaka Division director hopeful Abdullah Al Fuad Redwan and Major Imroz of Kathalbagan Green Crescent—withdrew from the race, alleging a “set-up election” and claiming that “overnight votes” were manipulated. Earlier, 16 other candidates, including former captain Tamim Iqbal, had also withdrawn their nominations.
Nevertheless, the election went ahead, with 23 directors elected by councilors across three categories. An additional two directors were selected through the National Sports Council quota, bringing the total number of elected directors to 25.
Aminul Islam Bulbul was elected president of the BCB, while former BCB chief Faruk Ahmed was chosen as vice president.
From Category-1, Dhaka Division, Aminul Islam Bulbul and Nazmul Abedin Fahim were elected as directors.
In Category-3, despite multiple candidates having withdrawn in other categories, the election remained competitive. Former Bangladesh captain Khaled Masud Pilot defeated Debbrat Pal with a 35–7 vote to secure his position as BCB director.
