Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) discovered that up to eighteen candidates in the upcoming national election own movable, liquid properties valued at more than Tk 100 crore each.
These include Awami League candidate Abu Zafar Mohammad Shafi Uddin with Tk 306.68 crore, Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi with Tk 1345.77 crore, independent candidate SAK Ekramuzzaman with Tk 421.16 crore, Salman F Rahman with Tk 315.76 crore. Their respective contests are from Cumilla-8, Brahmanbaria-2, Dhaka-1, and Narayanganj-1.
Assets that are movable or liquid include cash on hand, government bonds, postal certificates, bank deposits, and fixed deposits. Assets like land and real estate properties are not included here, said TIB.
These findings were presented by TIB at a press conference held in their office on Wednesday by examining affidavits that were submitted to the Election Commission.
