Renowned Lalon folk singer Farida Parveen has been transferred from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to a cabin as her health condition shows signs of improvement.

Her son, Imam Jafar Numani, a faculty member at BRAC University, confirmed the development on Sunday night (July 13).

“She was moved from the ICU to a cabin last night. My mother is doing better now and can speak. However, doctors have warned that if visitor traffic is not controlled, her condition could worsen again. We request everyone to pray for her full recovery,” said Imam.

He added, “She remains under observation, and doctors will monitor her closely for the next few days. It’s too early to say when she will be discharged. A decision will likely be made in two or three days.”

Farida Parveen’s husband, instrumentalist Gazi Abdul Hakim, also shared an update:

“I visited her in the ICU yesterday afternoon. She could speak a little and seemed to be improving. Last night, she was shifted to a cabin.”

Earlier, on July 5, Farida Parveen was admitted to the hospital with severe respiratory distress. Doctors later diagnosed a brain hemorrhage, a blood infection, and complete kidney failure, requiring dialysis three times a week.

At one point, she was unresponsive, prompting her transfer to the ICU. A special medical board was formed for her advanced care.

Fans and well-wishers across the country continue to pray for the recovery of the iconic voice of Bengali folk music.
