The Bangla Academy has postponed the upcoming Amar Ekushey Book Fair, which had been scheduled for December, in light of the upcoming national elections.
The announcement came on Sunday in a statement signed by Bangla Academy Director General Prof. Mohammad Azam.
The statement cited a September 21, 2025 decision by the Ministry of Home Affairs directing that the fair be organized after the national polls.
In response, the previously announced dates for the 2026 edition of the book fair have been put on hold. New dates will be decided later in consultation with publishers and other stakeholders, the statement added.
The fair had earlier been scheduled to run from December 17, 2025 to January 17, 2026.
