The government has officially announced the full teams for five new reform commissions, including those focusing on media, health, labor, women’s rights, and local government.

These reforms aim to improve key areas of the country’s governance and services.

On Monday (November 18), the Cabinet Division released an order confirming the formation of the Media Reform Commission.

This commission, led by experienced journalist Kamal Ahmed, will focus on making the media more independent, stronger, and more reliable.

The government will soon issue an official notification to finalize the formation of the commission.

The commission will begin its work soon, gathering opinions from all relevant groups. It is expected to submit its final report to Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus within 90 days.

Along with the Media Reform Commission, the government has also formed other important reform commissions.

Syed Sultan Uddin Ahmed, Executive Director of the Bangladesh Institute of Labor Studies (BILS), will lead the 10-member Labor Reform Commission.

An 8-member Local Government Reform Commission will be headed by Professor Tofail Ahmed, a former head of Chittagong University’s Department of Public Administration.

The 10-member Women’s Reform Commission will be led by Shireen Parveen Haque, a founding member of the women’s rights group "Nari Pokkho".

The 12-member Health Sector Reform Commission will be chaired by Professor A.K. Azad Khan, President of the Bangladesh Diabetic Association.

These commissions will begin their work immediately. They will collect input from various stakeholders and submit their reports within 90 days.

The government will provide the necessary offices and administrative support for these commissions.

Members of the commissions will receive salaries and benefits according to government rules.

However, if any member prefers to work without these benefits, they can do so with approval from the Chief Adviser.

The government will also ensure that all relevant ministries and organizations assist the commissions by providing the information they need to carry out their work.
